Disciplinary action against a member of Faculty

Article 17.1. of OIST Rules on Disciplines etc for Employees obliges the President and Chief Executive Officer to announce disciplinary action taken “in relation to an act committed in, or in connection with, an employee’s job duties” following investigation by a Disciplinary Review Committee (DRC). The Committee in this case was chaired by external legal counsel retained specifically for this matter.
OIST has taken disciplinary action against a member of Faculty, effective May 20, 2025. Following careful investigation, DRC found that this Faculty member had exceeded their authority and violated PRP3.4 Management Structure for Academic Issues. Such conduct was unbecoming of OIST faculty, was disrespectful to the wide faculty and other colleagues, and was not acceptable. DRC recommended a Written Warning, which has duly been issued by the President/CEO.
